Sculpting wax blocks is an essential skill for dental students and dentists. By engraving the dental shape, on the one hand, you can train the most basic operating skills in the oral treatment process, and on the other hand, you can deepen your understanding of the characteristics of the dental shape.
1. Collect wax chips or wax blocks, and simply break them up for later processing.
2. Make a model (a carton used to hold molten wax and shape it). Before making a model, determine the length and width of the wax block to be made (usually an extra budget of 5 mm), and cut it with hard paper/card. Make the five sides of the carton, and then use tape to paste the gaps between the sides. Sealing is required, otherwise the wax liquid will ooze or even spread when it is filled.
3. Find a ventilated place without shaking the flame of the alcohol lamp, and place the following tools: the upper left corner of the alcohol lamp, the upper right corner of the container with wax chips, the lighter (away from the alcohol lamp), and the small paper box in the middle , Spoon.
4. Ignite the alcohol lamp, use a spoon to put the wax chips on the plane, and place them above the flame of the alcohol lamp (using a high-temperature outer flame). After the wax chips are completely melted, transfer the wax liquid to the carton. Pick up the carton with your left hand and change your hand position so that the wax liquid covers the bottom first.
5. After the first wax liquid has solidified, continue to add wax liquid until half of the carton is reached. Stop waxing and use the alcohol lamp cap to extinguish the flame. Move the carton to the fan or air conditioner to accelerate the solidification of the wax liquid. After the surface solidifies, re-ignite the alcohol lamp, continue to add wax to fullness, and repeat the process of accelerating the solidification.
6. Since the wax liquid has polycondensation properties when solidified, the surface tends to sink into it, so the third waxing can be carried out. Under normal circumstances, it takes 5-8 hours for the entire wax block to solidify, so the carton cannot be taken out immediately after the surface has solidified to avoid serious wax block deformation. The suggestion is to open the carton every other day or night.
