1) According to the size of bur diamond grit
The handle of coarse-grained emery bur (125-150μm) is marked with a black or green color ring;
The standard emery bur (106-125μm) handle is marked with a blue color ring;
The handle of the fine-grained emery bur (53-63μm) is marked with a red color ring or a colorless ring;
Very fine-grained emery bur (20-30μm) shank is marked with a yellow or white color ring.
(2) Classified by function
1. Pre-grinding burs: Generally, burs with coarser diamond grit (>150μm) are used for larger cutting.
2. Fine grinding burs: burs smaller than 40μm are used for fine grinding and polishing of the prepared tooth surface.
3. Short burr emery bur: used for tooth preparation in the molar area with a small mouth opening, especially in the molar area of patients with abnormal hypertrophy of the buccal fat pad.
4. Long-handled emery bur: clinical tooth preparation in the 1/3 area of the gingival with longer crowns.
5. Shoulder burs: This type of bur is designed with emery only on the top of its end, which is used for trimming and preparing the shoulder of the tooth neck.
6. Slender-necked emery bur: to ensure better exposure of the operating vision, to make the tooth preparation can accurately transition to the deep dentin, and to ensure that the tooth is minimally damaged.
